We asked our compliance director to delve into these brand-new color-changing shades and explain how they work. So, it’s time for a quick science lesson! Thermochromic pigments are special types of pigments found in Thermo Gels. These pigments react to temperature changes by altering their molecular structure, resulting in color changes.
How To Switch Up Your Shade
- When the nails are cold, the molecular structure becomes clear, allowing the natural color of the gel to shine through.
- When the nails are introduced to heat, the molecules become white, changing the color of the gel completely. This effect is used to create a continually changing ombre effect in these gel colors.
- As the temperature of the environment or the body changes, the gel responds dynamically. Thermo Gels can also be influenced by activities such as washing your hands with warm or cold water.

How To Apply
Thermo Gel Polish should be applied in the same way as our other gels: applying in two even coats and curing for 60 seconds in between. True to their name, however, they will go on as their original color, but once cured, they will transform to their alternate color due to the change in temperature. Because of this, they can look patchy, but do not fear. Continue with the top coat application, and once they are fully cured, simply run the nails under cold water to activate their color-changing powers fully.
